About Shady Side

The cozy Columbia Beach community of Shady Side, bordered by a state wetlands preserve, is located directly on the Chesapeake Bay. It includes approximately six streets along its width and runs about 3 blocks deep. This community is composed of modest houses. Some are occupied full time and others are used as weekend get away spots. Since it was founded in 1950, this private community has seen slow changes as its unique charm has lured outsiders who have discovered it. The houses are small and the streets are narrow.
